Things to Do on Hilton Head Island
Pair Atlantic beach time with shaded pathways, Port Royal Sound, Harbour Town, Shelter Cove, and the island’s Gullah history.
First-visit priorities
Atlantic shore, public pathways, golf, and tidal water
1. Atlantic beach
Start at Coligny for convenient public access, Folly Field for a north-island beach day, or Fish Haul Beach Park for Port Royal Sound and the Mitchelville side of the island.
2. Public pathways
The Town maintains more than 72 miles of public pathways. Ride a short beach-and-lunch loop, or spend a longer morning beneath live oaks on the central-island network.
3. Resort golf
Harbour Town Golf Links is the headline course; Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes add five more named courses for resort guests and visiting players.
4. Creeks, sounds, and marinas
Walk Harbour Town Yacht Basin, browse Shelter Cove Harbour, or book a dolphin, kayak, or sailing outing into the creeks and sounds around the island.

Add Lowcountry history and wildlife
Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park interprets the first self-governed Freedmen’s town in the United States. Nearby Fish Haul Beach Park opens toward Port Royal Sound, where shorebirds, tidal flats, and marsh replace the resort-island scenery.

A named family day
Start at Coligny Beach Park, cool off over lunch near Coligny Plaza, then choose either a short pathway ride or the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn before an early dinner.
Coligny and Honey Horn
Start at Coligny, use Honey Horn for a shaded afternoon, and keep the evening near the lodging area.
Beach walk and a boat outing
Pair an early beach walk with golf, tennis, or a boat outing, then choose Harbour Town, Shelter Cove, or Skull Creek for the evening.
Golf with one nearby shoreline stop
After a Sea Pines round, use Harbour Town or the resort beach. A Palmetto Dunes round pairs more naturally with its beach or Shelter Cove than with a cross-island detour.
Start with the resort base
Compare south-end beach access, central-island family resorts, and Sea Pines golf before choosing the lodging area.
